Top Five Holiday Songs… Celebrity Style!

December 19, 2009

It’s that time of the year again. Pushing in the malls, holiday fireplace on TV, and non-stop Christmas music. I personally love this time of the year– the excitement, the rude people, and the music. From Silent Night to Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer celebrities have covered all these classics. And made up a few new ones too. I have my favorites, do you?

Number Five:
N’Sync- Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

Gary Coleman, Justin’s curly hair, Chris Kirkpatrick’s ugly braids, oversized sweaters, green screen, and Lance Bass before he was out, it can only be N’Sync Christmas! This song is so happy, and they all look so young! I miss the early 2000’s for this reason. Justin was dating Britney, boy bands were huge, I was reading J-14 and YM Magazines and was an avid The Hit List on YTV watcher. Well, I guess that’s what YouTube is for, to bring back all the memories. And as a side note, how bored to those girls at the end look?

Number Four
Britney Spears: My Only Wish (This Year)

Released in 2000, this Christmas ditty is the only Xmas single by the pop star, according to Wikipedia. Super catchy and easy lyrics make you want to sing along to it, like all of Spears’ other songs.

Number Three
Christina Aguilera- Christmas Time

I love, love, love this song!! I remember when it was first released and I could only find snippets of it but I wanted the whole thing. It’s a holiday classic and just makes you happy, like how this time of the year should. And Xtina’s outfit is amazing in that video…. I’m kidding.

Number Two
Destiny’s Child- 8 Days of Christmas

Doesn’t it feel like Christmas? I still hear this song playing in stores, and it’s soo damn catchy! It’s a little dated now (“a gift certificate for my favorite cd’s”), but a classic nonetheless. I kind of miss Destiny’s Child, even though it was all about Beyonce anyways…

Number One
Mariah Carey- All I Want For Christmas Is You

The classic! Obviously this would be number one! The ultimate Christmas belter. I mean who doesn’t know the words to this one? And sang it at the top of their lungs when they thought no one was listening? It’s a legend, a classic, and one that can withstand the test of time. And a side note: that video kinda reminds me of Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Love it.

Trashy Ads at Hooters…Irony?

December 8, 2009

At a recent visit to Hooters I had this weekend (don’t try the nachos), I noticed this ad in a stall in the women’s washroom. Now, I usually love reading the ads in the stalls, but this one definitely makes my top ten list of creepiest ads ever.

The ad features a comic character relieving herself saying “The stress of the perfect car is giving me indigestion” and then in the next frame a shadowy man is entering the women’s washroom, cracks open her stall and says “Hey if you need a car, let me do the grunt work call …….”. At the bottom it says, “Shopping for a car stressing you out? Visit and call ……..”

I’m glad the guy left his number because if I was that cartoon girl I would be calling the cops and tell them exactly where to go. This one makes the list with Rod Stewart look alike, Rod Peeler and his equally creepy real estate ad.

Victoria’s Secret Show Heats Up The Airwaves

December 2, 2009

Last night the steamiest event of the holiday season took place on CBS, The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The event, which has been broadcast yearly since 1999, was held in New York City and featured a few performances by the Black Eyed Peas.  Now, the show is one of my favorite events of the year, I love the glitter and the girliness of the event.  And then there’s the music.  Every year the show features mashups from popular artists, my favorite year was in 2005, which was also Tyra Banks’ last show.

This year’s event tapped into the reality show craze. In pre-filmed segments, Angel Boot Camp, one lucky girl from across America got the chance to be an Angel for the night. The mini reality show (which would have been an great series) tapped into the America’s Next Top Model craze, and sifted down over 1000 girls to two who let America decide the winner. Now here’s the thing– the show was taped in November, so the winner was either pre chosen, or both girls got a chance to live her dream and walk down the glitter cat walk in her skeevies.

As for the rest of the show, it was pretty standard, we got to see the models dancing backstage, getting their hair done, and hear the director’s voice. The Black Eyed Peas were surprisingly really good (especially for Meet Me Halfway, which is a song I love). And Heidi Klum looked really fab for just having a baby (even though her stomach was covered). Speaking of stomachs, Marisa Miller with her killer abs wore the 2009 Fantasy Bra worth three million dollars U.S. They have these bras every year and actually offer them for sale in their holiday catalogue. However, apparently no one has ever bought one. No kidding, for three million, I see why.

Beyonce gets Techsavvy and Gaga looks… normal?

December 2, 2009

Beyonce enters the world of the future and Lady Gaga looks… normal?  Is that possible?

In the video for the first collaboration between Gaga and Beyonce, Video Phone , Beyonce is the weirder looking one between the two. Honestly, I thought I would never see Lady Gaga out of her comfort zone. No crazy hair, no crazy outfits, no crazy anything. In fact, she looks and sounds just like Christina Aguilera, circa Diirty, era. Ironically, Aguilera was criticized last year for her 2008 VMA performance where she looked just like Gaga.

The thing is, Lady Gaga is known for her crazy, “avant-garde”, performances and videos. And although this video is for a Beyonce song, did Gaga just decide not to try? Don’t get me wrong, it’s refreshing to see her out of her norm and away from her personal brand, but c’mon Lady G, give us something fierce. Maybe she’ll do it for her single with Beyonce, Telephone, which would be ironic. Gaga singing about normal technology and Beyonce singing about high tech stuff. Yeah, it makes my brain hurt too.
